The group draws on the notion of linguistic norm from different perspectives. It is not interested in only studying how languages are naturally organized in society and how the human being describes/prescribes such behavior, but also in comparing how this analytical approach to language takes place in different Romance languages and eventually in evaluating the consequences of different approaches in their respective communities. Topics of interest include: 1) the concept of linguistic norm, 2) the construction of linguistic norms, 3) variation and change in languages, 4) historical constitution of natural language grammars, 5) the role of grammar in society, 6) the role of grammar in teaching mother tongue and foreign language, 7) descriptive grammar and prescriptive grammar, 8) morpho-syntactic aspects of natural languages, and 8) methods for linguistic description.
