CID – Group for Research on Body and Image in Discourse

Established in 2008, the research group studies the relationship between body and language in meaning production processes related to history, social aspects, and power strategies and mechanisms. Topics of study include: identifications of gender, sexuality, race, among others, at their intersections; issues related to affection and affectivity; body and corporeality in relation to artificial intelligence systems or other digital technologies; the body in foreign language learning; language teaching and learning. Analytical materials include: films, images, works of art, digital programs, advertising campaigns, texts and media products, teaching materials, written texts, among others. The research group promotes transdisciplinary Applied Linguistic studies interfaced with disciplines such as Linguistics, Discourse Analysis, Philosophy, Cultural Studies, Sociology, and Economics, especially when it comes to their critical theories.
